Tommy Gaunt, Central Belt Area Manager

Following in my Father and Grandfathers footsteps, I joined the Flooring Industry in 1979 as a Trainee Contracts Clerk, with a national company, and progressed onto various roles including Procurement, Estimating, Sales, Business Development, Branch Manager and ultimately Director, all of which have provided me with a well rounded knowledge of the industry.

Having joined GTFSL in September 2015 and teaming up again with old colleagues, John and Scott, my role is to manage an existing customer base and to develop new business streams in the Central Belt.

I’m also proud to have served on the committees of AFCC Scotland and Contract Flooring Association (CFA)

What do you like about your job and the industry?

Even after 36 years, there’s always something new to learn, whether it’s products or a problem to solve – keeps it interesting. But most of all, it’s the diverse range of people that I’ve had the pleasure to meet over the period.

Away From work what do you spend your time doing?

Golfing (bit up and down), Cycling (slowly), Holidays & Travelling (anywhere, anytime) – starting to sound a bit like a contestant in Miss World!!

I started in the industry at 18 years old as a trainee estimator for a national flooring company and stayed for twenty years moving on to various roles before joining the board of directors. I joined GTFSL in June 2014 as a shareholder and managing director.

I first became involved in this sector in 1991 as an estimator with Veitchi, however in 1994, I like Ed, left to become one of the founding directors of G&T.
