Altens Recycling Centre

Project Overview

Following a major fire in 2022, the Altens East Recycling Centre in Aberdeen has undergone a £30 million rebuild with a full reopening expected in mid-2025. As part of this transformation, Morrison Construction brought us in to refurbish the office block flooring, preparing the space to welcome staff back during the upcoming testing and commissioning phase. The renewed facility will house not only offices, but also a waste transfer station and visitor centre and we’re proud to play a part in helping it rise stronger than before.

Challenges

Although the project followed a clear scope, one of the key challenges was the condition of the subfloors following the initial strip-out, which left them uneven and unsuitable for direct installation. Our team carried out extensive preparation works to bring the surfaces back to specification – a crucial step in ensuring long-term performance and achieving a smooth, durable finish across all flooring installations.

Solution

To meet the client’s goals for durability, safety and visual appeal, we delivered a tailored flooring package incorporating carpet tiles, safety vinyl, and specialist barrier matting – all selected for their performance and sustainability. The use of high-quality, long-lasting materials aligned perfectly with the project’s environmental objectives, ensuring the refurbished space was both resilient and future-ready. The installation, completed over three months, was expertly overseen by experienced fitter Wayne Allison, whose meticulous attention to detail helped maintain quality from start to finish.
